Dear friends, colleagues and customers, this is another new beginning, a new collection of articles that will hopefully be of interest and utility to artists, art collectors, art students, lovers of art and cultural citizens.
Some of these offerings will address questions that are often asked at Vanishing Point, questions about methods for choosing mats and frames, or about the benefits of different types of glass, or about guidelines for hanging pictures. Of course I will have something to say as well about the importance of picture frames in general, and their aesthetic development and function.
Other articles may be directed more toward painters, either at a technical level, as in a forthcoming instructional video about a better way to stretch canvas, or at a more theoretical level, perhaps discussing nuances of studio practice or the difficulties of finding meaningful content.
For the art collector and art history student, I intend to explore diverse questions of evaluation, such as how we recognize good art and how we understand its significance. Being an art historian myself, with a particular interest in the work of Saskatchewan artists, I expect to write often about favourite artists, both historical and currently practicing. I also plan to respond to selected art exhibitions and other events in the community, such as the promised opening of the Remai Modern, offering my insights and reflections, for what they may be worth.
I invite you to check in from time to time, and to make requests.
